Commonwealth Care Alliance Implements Babel and Recaptures an Estimated $6 million in Revenue

Pittsburgh, PA – August 8, 2018—Babel Health, LLC, an innovative provider of an integrated, compliant ETL-based SaaS suite of data management and encounter submission software and services to government health plans, is pleased to announce that Commonwealth Care Alliance® (CCA), a not-for-profit, community-based health plan in Boston, Massachusetts, has implemented Babel’s fully integrated SaaS ETL data management platform for their EDPS/RAPS submissions.

By switching to Babel, CCA was able to resolve a myriad of data problems. They were able to improve submission acceptance rates, reduce their error correction effort, and reduce the burden of encounter support on its IT group. Preliminary results show that CCA has increased its acceptance rate from 62% to a 98% acceptance rate and was able to recapture close to $6 million in revenue. Preliminary estimates on the long-term implications for both error correction and the retrospective correction of encounter data suggest that CCA had an estimated $6 million in revenue at risk if encounter submission improvements had not been made.

“CCA selected Babel as a technology partner because we recognized the value they could provide through an intuitive and transparent technology solution that other vendors try to address through expensive outsourcing arrangements that lack autonomy and control,“said Daniel Teague, CCA’s Senior Vice President of Operations. “In this regard, Babel Health stands alone in a multitude of consulting organizations both in terms of speed to production and ease of use.”

Babel Health provides an innovative, customer-focused approach to the entire risk adjustment submission process for health plans. The company’s integrated SaaS ETL (extract-transform-load) data management platform provides health plans with full transparency and control of the underlying data for business insight and critical day-to-day business decision making across all lines of business. Unlike other solutions in the marketplace, Babel enables its customers to take control of an extraordinarily complex process and provides user-friendly access to the data in order to solve the business problems inherent to risk adjustment submissions. In addition, the Babel team is committed to continually improving our customer’s experience through product enhancements, streamlined processes, clear communication and ethical interactions.

Based in Massachusetts, Commonwealth Care Alliance (CCA) is a not-for-profit, community-based healthcare organization dedicated to improving care for individuals who are dually eligible for MassHealth (Medicaid) and Medicare with complex medical, behavioral health and social needs, including persons with disabilities. CCA offers two health plans: Senior Care Options (HMO SNP), for individuals ages 65 and over who have Medicare and MassHealth Standard or only MassHealth Standard; and One Care, a Massachusetts demonstration program for dual eligible individuals ages 21 to 64. These comprehensive health plans provide all the services covered under Medicare and MassHealth, and other benefits as determined necessary by an inter-professional care team in conjunction with CCA’s preferred provider network. For two consecutive years (2016-17), CCA’s One Care plan received a top consumer rating for quality and access in the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) national survey of Medicare-Medicaid Plans, administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS).
